Tweet Glide – My first attempt to ’systemize’ my Tweeting…

Everyone told me about Tweet Deck, Tweet This, Tweet That, Tweet Twit Twas Twhat? When I first signed up for Twitter, I ‘got it’ right away. I understood the entire concept, I always think of it like text messaging on the web. Simple, 140 characters, people can follow you, comment, interact, it’s become one of my favorite 2.0 networks.

However, I never used any of the ‘tools’ that everyone suggested I should. I was told this product would help me do this, this product would help me do that…Funny thing was, Twitter as is works fine. I never believed in those auto follow software thingys (is thingy an actual word?) , so you would see I only follow the people I know, like, admire, respect and I don’t follow Jim Bob trying to pitch me GVO.

Kept everything very simple, easy to manage.

That’s until I started to follow hundreds of people. Sure it was fine and dandy when I followed 25-50 people, I could keep up with it very easily. But with hundreds of people that I DO know, like, admire, etc…It gets a bit hectic.

So, here comes Mike Filsaime’s TweetGlide, which is essentially Tweet Deck made for internet marketers. Cool huh? Ya, I figured the first ‘tool’ I should use to manage my Tweeting should be from the king of internet marketing.

Why?

Two reasons, O.K. maybe three. The first, this product kicks butt. It’s one of those easy to use systems that Jon Olson figured out in 5 minutes. Anything techy, I get scared very easily, so I was pleasantly surprised to download the software and get ‘tweeting’ right away.

The second, it’s made by someone who knows Twitter, uses Twitter and is active in Twitter. This tells me that Mike knows what he developed and created something that he would use himself, daily.

And finally, it’s Mike Filsaime. He’s a big kahuna in the internet marketing world so you know this will have ‘marketing’ over tones to it. Yup, it’s got a neat little ‘traffic exchange’ type feature that shows your ‘ads / tweets’ once for every 5 times you tweet. Cool huh?

If you use Twitter, are into internet marketing and want to check out the next big Twitter tool, TweetGlide in it. Did you download it already? Let me know what you think, please give me your opinions of it =)

Rankings? Bah, Who Needs Rankings…

I’m a very proud papa this week as my traffic exchange hit the number one spot on a ranking list that well, isn’t advertised very much, but I feel is as important as any of the big boy rankers.

I Love Hits generated more results for Tim Linden’s blog then any other traffic exchange this past week. 51 I Love Hits members joined Tim’s blog directly from the traffic exchange.

Why is this an important stat? Well of course I’m pleased to see I Love Hits performing so well, but something that should be focused on is the results aspect of Tim’s ranking this past week. Here’s a list that focused on what you should be focusing on too, results!

Results matter and here is a perfect example of Tim’s results from a traffic exchange that doesn’t offer commissions, doesn’t have team surfing, doesn’t have surf chat, and doesn’t have massive custom additions. What it does have is great members, clean and easy surfing and it delivers results.

Kind of weird huh?

A traffic exchange actually doing what a traffic exchange should be doing. All these commissions, team surfing, all that stuff is a bonus and shouldn’t be the reason you surf a program. You should surf it because you are getting great results.

A traffic exchange is only as good as the quality of it’s members, and this week I’m a very proud owner. I can say you guys and gals are the best in the business and I thank you so much for being an active and responsive member.

Branding With Banners & Text Ads

A few years ago I had this crazy idea to follow suit with the entire ’splash page’ concept and transfer the same ideas to banners and text ads. With the popularity of certain scripts that allowed surfers to not only earn credits but also banner and text ad impressions, it seemed like a natural progression.

Take the ideas of splash page design;

A – Grab Attention with a strong headline, graphic or media clip.

C – Create Curiosity with a short paragraph, maybe some bullet points that outline the features of your offer.

A – Call to Action to seal the deal. Always tell your viewer what you would like them to do.

I lovingly called this the ACA’s of splash page design and it’s how I have created splash pages since the early 2000’s. So let’s take that same model, and create a banner…

Here’s an example of what I consider a ’splash banner’:

splash banner

Simple, big bold images flying at you. It creates curiosity and almost dares the viewer to click it. You have to be creative when creating these banners but they do not need to be Picasso’s. Simple usually works best.

Here’s another example, and this one has gotten the highest click through rate of any of my splash banners during the past few years:

splash banner example

I also took that ‘Jon Olson Sucks’ campaign and used it in my text ads. Which again, sticks out like a sore thumb but also creates enough curiosity to get viewers to click or at least remember my name.

Remember, the traffic exchanges are a visual medium, so less is more when it comes to ad copy on your banners, splash pages and text ads. Keep it simple, use humor with anything you do and you are sure to capture some eye balls.

But above all else, have fun with it. Here’s is one of the best new resources for creating killer banners and splash pages. It’s free and you can create until your heart’s content!

Have fun =)

News from I Love Hits and SWAT Traffic This Week…

The big news from both camps this week is the introduction of our new full time programmer that we have brought in. Right now he is working on some back end management stuff, for example the system mailer at SWAT Traffic. You may not see many things ‘done’ in the next few weeks, but he is working on a lot of stuff.

All this is to help manage and make both I Love Hits and SWAT Traffic much more powerful traffic exchanges. Please do send me your ideas and suggestions, as this will only help the programs grow. I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve too that I’m sure you are going to love.

Please do send me your suggestions and let’s see where we can take these programs together =)

News from I Love Hits specifically this week is the re-introduction of Alert Pay back into the payment options. Special thanks to Darren Olander for helping me sort out the Alert Pay problems, and you can no once again use Alert Pay for all your advertising and branding needs.

And oh yeah, there is only a day left in our Super Surfing with Traffic Taxis promotion. Be sure to take advantage of some massive bonus credits while Super Surfing and get ready for an announcement very soon about our next guest traffic exchange!

Comments are always appreciated, thanks so much for reading the ILH / SWAT Blog!

The Problem With ‘Numbers’

Urgh!

Traffic exchange rankings. It’s been something I have been doing since 2003 and I have been through some pretty intense battles when it comes to rankings. I feel some of the major traffic exchange ranking sites on the net are well…Not that accurate and when you base your rankings just on the numbers, you miss some of the gems that this industry has to offer.

When you base everything just on numbers, certain ‘variables’ are never shown. This is why I have always maintained that my Top 10 Traffic Exchange List at Hit Exchange News is not only numbers, but my opinion as well. Why? Well, things like superior customer support, incredible web site design, great training tips via a blog or email…All these things cannot be ‘measured’ with standard calculations.

And yeah, this may be tooting my own horn here but this is why I still say to this day that the best way to rank traffic exchanges, is by asking the members what they think. Like my friend Tony Tezak has always said…”Power to the surfers” and for good reason.

When you ask the people what they think you get honest answers. You get feedback on not only how well a traffic exchange performs but also on what people are thinking about the owner and management of that program. There is so much to thinking about when ranking traffic exchanges, it just simply can’t be only number based.

Did you know that you can rank and review your favorite traffic exchanges, each and every week? The most popular traffic exchanges on the net are ranked BY THE SURFERS, every week at Affiliate Funnel. And while that’s not even a perfect list, I think it does something that no other list does and that’s let the surfers decide what they like.

Popularity contest? Absolutely!

And guess what, when something is popular that means that the owner is doing something right and the members are supporting him or her. So get to it and have your say each and every week! The power is yours to tell the industry what you think, make sure you vote and give them your thoughts!

Justin Ledvina Loves Pizza…And I Love AdKreator

So my buddy Justin Ledvina sends me a note on Skype yesterday and he shows me this link…

AdKreator

Yes, you guessed it. My jaw hit the floor because I am an absolute fiend when it comes to web design. It’s truly the most important aspect of my brand presentation within the traffic exchanges, so when I see something that looked that good, the questions (and praise) started flowing…

Here’s how the conversation went;

Justin: Yo dude, are you around?
Jon: Yes sir.
Justin: Check this out….
Jon: Oh wow! Dude, wow.
Justin: It’s now available for every member of Ad Kreator.
Jon: Are you serious? Where can they find it?
Justin: Yes sir, you can check it out now. In the splash pages section.
Jon: Man, this is the coolest splash I have seen. Thanks so much man. Wow!

Yeah, there was a few more ‘Wow’s’ and ‘Thank you’s’ but the message was clear, Justin had created something spectacular using his brand new splash and squeeze page creator called Ad Kreator.

I was hooked!

So I poked around the members area and started to see the massive potential this program had. This is quickly becoming my new favorite tool for traffic exchange advertising and something I think everyone (not only Pizza Plan members *lol*) will really get to love over the next few weeks.

Check it out, if you are a Pizza Plan member you now have access to a custom splash page where you can add your own picture, testimonial, bullet points….Or use the default one Justin created.

If not, you still get one of the best new splash and squeeze page generating systems on the internet today. Justin’s Ad Kreator is packed with features you will love!

Big Time Boo Boo But Good News Too

K, so I Love Hits had quite the mini-disaster these past 24 hours. Surfers could not ‘earn’ credits and even though they were viewing sites, no credits were being earned.

Yup, I messed that up good.

Long story short, the problem has now been resolved thanks to (once again) the stellar services of Mr. Tim Linden. I wanted to thank Tim for once again helping me out and saving the site and apologize to everyone who had troubles surfing.

I have bumped up all the surfing bonuses for the Super Surfing ratios for the next 48 hours. Hopefully this will help get back some of the credits lost.

ALSO…..

The good news today is that we are once again hosting our monthly TE Townhall Meeting.

It’s taking place tonight at 8pm Eastern in the SWAT Traffic training room.

So everyone come out, we want to see every surfer, owner, critic and fan of the traffic exchanges come out to our live session. Every time we host these it’s always a good time. You never know who will come out and what the topic may be…But one thing is for certain, it’s all about traffic exchanges!

See you soon =)

Saying Goodbye To Ol’ Faithful…

It’s been fun…

I mean it’s really been a good run but I’m done with Trackerlinks.

That name might not sound familiar to a good lot of you but for some of us old timers, Trackerlinks was one of the first ‘ad trackers’ that catered to the traffic exchange industry. The owners of this program actually created tailor made trackers for their customers who were members of MPAM and Affiliate Showcase (two of the largest downline builders in the early 2000’s). They had, in my opinion, one of the most detailed and easy to read members area and showcased exactly what I thought you needed in the perfect ad tracker.

Well this weekend, they went offline. Not surprising and they may even come back but it’s time to say good bye. I’ve been tracking traffic exchanges since 2002 and while Trackerlinks was always my favorite, it’s time to move on.

Today, I’m busy moving every single ad tracker I have had in the traffic exchanges, over to my brand new trackers hosted at T.E. Toolbox. It’s time. It’s sad but I’m excited to be using new trackers and it will give me even more numbers I can use to judge how well my favorite traffic exchanges are performing.

Ad tracking, it’s not the most glamorous gig in this business, but it sure does help you see through the smoke!

Need Results? Take Your Time…

Branding your name and building your list are what I refer to as the ‘Two B’s of The T.E.’s’ and a practice I encourage every traffic exchange surfer to embrace. These programs are tailor made for users that want to build their personal or business awareness, while working towards building a solid contact list.

However, for this practice to really be effective, it needs time to develop.  To break the ice in this business and get your viewers to ‘trust’ you, they must first get to know you. How do you get surfers to ‘know’ you?

Like I mentioned in the past post on this blog, it helps to get personal. That means stick your name and picture on every splash or squeeze page you can. This is personal branding and the longer you stay in front of people, and the more you stay in front of people, the more they get to know you. They start recognizing your name, your face, your business and then the magic happens…

They fill out a form, they request more information, they become a part of your contact list.

But remember, this did not happen overnight. This takes time and the traffic exchange surfers who get the best results are the ones that are in front of everyone, constantly and consistently.

To brand your name and build your list, you do not need to spend a fortune. What you need is patience and effort. Make sure you produce a PERSONAL splash or squeeze page. Complete with your name, picture and heck, throw in a phone number if you really wanna take it to the next level (this is a practice Mr. Tony Tezak has used for years).

Next, make sure you get in front of those surfers. Don’t have time to surf for hours a day? No problem, you could always grab a membership in an online advertising co-op.

And then finally…Patience. The more you are visible, the better. Take your time, try new headlines and ad copy but always stay visible!
