Just read a very informative post from my good friend Tim Linden. Of course, when Tim gets going he gets a lot of feedback from his readers. One post though, really grabbed my attention…

The topic was the recent launch of Hit Silo and how it has been received. One comment claimed that other traffic exchange launches aren’t ‘fair’ because the new owner’s have a JV launch team that helps them build the program and refer new members…

K, I understand what this comment was supposed to state however I have a big problem with the whole attitude of ‘it’s not fair because….’. Because why? A marketer has busted their tail to get in a position to be on a launch team? It’s not fair because a marketer has built a relationship with their readers and refer a lot of new members? What is not fair here?

I think it’s another ‘poor me’ way of thinking that PLAGUES the traffic exchanges. How about comments like ‘I can’t afford it’, ‘The big boys always make the money’, ‘The Good Ol’ Boys network cannot be broken into’….

Folks, no one who is ANYONE in this business ever got it handed to them. They worked. They struggled. They sweat, they cried (God knows I did), they bled until they made it. Here’s the best part, especially if you are looking to build a very solid business as well, anyone can do this…No one is ‘extra special’ in this industry, we are all the same. We all have the same desires, the same dreams and the same vision…

The question you should be asking yourself is HOW do I get to that level? Not ‘it’s not fair’. It’s not supposed to be fair, it’s business. I’d love to hear your comments on this and please don’t hold back. If you feel like I’m out to lunch here, let me know. We all have opinions and we should always voice them!

I’ve been talking about this topic for quite some time now, but today I wanted to speak directly to the owners of these programs that are training their members not to surf. Obviously, I’m not naive enough to think that surfing the traffic exchanges for hours on end is ’sexy’. In fact some days it can be down right boring, but how much harm are we doing when we create an entire culture of people against surfing?

Here’s what will happen owners, if you continue to tell people not to surf. You will hurt the same business (the traffic exchanges) that has CREATED and feed your programs. These things need a healthy mix of paying members and free members. If you have too much of either, your traffic exchange cannot survive.

So by running around, creating splash and squeeze pages that train people not to surf you are in fact, biting the hand that feeds you.

I know, I know…It’s all about marketing, and getting your message across. That’s cool, I know a lot of T.E. owners appreciate very much the business you have brought them. But perhaps you should attack this from another angle. How about instead of saying ‘Stop Surfing’, how about something like ‘Learn to surf 30 minutes a day and finally see the results you want…” or something along those lines.

Folks, if the traffic exchanges are to survive, we need a healthy community of surfers. I’m still in these things daily, surfing as much as I can and I’ve been doing this for a decade. Surfing can be very informative and very beneficial to your business…If you do it properly.

So I say, keep surfing! Enjoy it, learn from it and prosper. Maximize your results by surfing smarter!

“Follow this plan and you’ll be rich in 30 days….”

“I used to flip burgers, now I’m making loads of cash online…”

The claims are everywhere. Especially if you are surfing the traffic exchanges for any amount of time, you will see that our senses are bombarded with claims of income, stress free living, and *gasp* the almighty downline of dreams.

It begs the question, if there are so many of these ‘get rich’ plans online, how come most of us struggle to make ends meet?

Here’s my opinion and thought on it, I might be completely out to lunch here but I am speaking from experience only. We lack focus!

Focus was my favorite word a few years back, when I had my first ‘ah ha’ moment online. You see, I was involved in everything. From get rich quick plans, to downline builders, to *another gasp* pro only traffic exchanges, and everything in between. It wasn’t until I focuses on my list building and concentrated 100% on THAT did I start to see results.

How did I ‘do it’? Simple, I got rid of everything I didn’t need. Even though I purchased an upgrade at GDI (yes, I was once a member), it had nothing to do with my game plan and my focus. The focus was build my list and become THE traffic exchange expert, and well, GDI just didn’t fall in line with my game plan. So *poof* I got rid of my membership there.

Now that’s just an example, if something doesn’t fit with your goals, you should not spend a lot of energy and time on it. Focus you efforts on one or two things. I would recommend one thing and of course, it’s no secret I’m a fan of list building first and foremost.

One of the biggest problems online is ’slot machine marketing’ and even though I have not touched on this topic for a few years, it’s important to stop pulling the slot machine and dumping money into something that well, isn’t designed for you to make money.

Build your list, focus on YOU and you will not be held back anymore!
